When you need one

Signs your home needs rewiring

If two or three of these sound familiar, it's worth booking an EICR before deciding.

01

House is 25+ years old

If the property hasn't been rewired since the 1990s, the wiring system is likely below current regs and degrading.

02

Round-pin sockets or cloth cabling

Original lighting circuits, rubber/cloth cabling or round-pin sockets are usually beyond repair and need replacing.

03

Trips, burning smells, scorch marks

Repeated tripping, warm sockets or scorch marks behind faceplates are signs the installation is failing.

04

Renovation or extension

If the property is being extended, it's cheaper to rewire now than retrofit after plastering.

05

Failed EICR with multiple C1/C2s

Where the report shows widespread issues, a rewire is often more economical than circuit-by-circuit remedials.

06

Buying or letting

Buyers want certified electrics. Landlords need a satisfactory EICR. A rewire delivers both.

Common questions

House rewire FAQs

How long does a house rewire take?

Most domestic rewires take 5–10 working days. A 2-bed flat is usually closer to 5; a 4-bed family home with extensions can be 10+. We'll give you a concrete timeline in the written quote.

Do I need to move out during a rewire?

Usually not. We work in stages so at least part of the property stays powered most of the time. Heavy plaster work after first-fix is where most people stay elsewhere for a couple of nights if they can.

Do you do partial rewires?

Yes, a partial rewire targets only the circuits that need replacing (e.g. just upstairs, or just the kitchen). It's a big chunk cheaper than a full rewire when the existing system is mostly sound.

What certificates do I get afterwards?

An Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC) covering the new work, plus a Part P notification submitted to your local authority. Both go into your home file and stay with the property when you sell.

Which areas do you cover for rewires?

North London, primarily N, E, EN and NW postcodes. We've completed rewires in Highgate, Crouch End, Tottenham, Edmonton, Wood Green, Enfield, Walthamstow and surrounding areas.
